Sustainability

We believe that caring for the environment starts with the little things we do every day. We want to help children develop a love and respect for the world around them, and we know that small, thoughtful choices can make a big difference. From the resources we choose to the way we care for the children, sustainability is an important part of our everyday practice.

Nappies and wipes

We are proud to use reusable nappies with bamboo liners, rather than relying on disposable nappies.

Did you know that disposable nappies can take an estimated 300–500 years to break down in landfill?

By choosing reusable, we’re helping to reduce the number of disposable nappies sent to landfill and making a more sustainable choice for our little ones and their future.

These are washed after each use, allowing us to reduce waste while maintaining our high standards of hygiene. We also use Cheeky Wipes as an alternative to disposable wipes.

For face washing, we individually prepare warm flannels, and each child has their own individual flannel for handwashing. Doing this helps prevent unnecessary waste from ending up in landfill.

Milk

Even the milk we serve reflects our commitment to sustainability. We have fresh organic milk delivered by our local milkman in traditional glass bottles. These bottles are returned and reused, helping us cut down on single-use plastic packaging and support a more sustainable way of buying everyday essentials.

Our resources

When it comes to play, we believe in investing in quality, natural resources that inspire imagination and stand the test of time.

We love wooden toys and open-ended resources, with some of our favourite brands being Grimms, Grapat and Community Playthings. These beautiful, thoughtfully designed resources encourage children to explore, create, problem-solve and use their imaginations in countless different ways. Rather than buying cheap plastic toys that may quickly break or be discarded, we choose durable resources that can be enjoyed for years to come. We believe that investing in high-quality, long-lasting equipment is better for both the children and the environment.

Recycling

One of the children's favourite things to do is junk modelling! We love collecting everyday items such as cereal boxes, cardboard tubes and other clean packaging materials and turning them into something completely new.

A simple box becomes a rocket, a house, a robot or anything a child's imagination can dream up! Junk modelling is a fantastic way to reuse materials that might otherwise be thrown away, while giving children the freedom to experiment, design and create.

Beach cleans

Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond our preschool walls and into our local community. Our preschoolers love taking part in beach cleans at our local beach, where they become little environmental champions!

Armed with their litter pickers, the children help collect litter and ensure it is disposed of responsibly. These hands-on experiences give them a meaningful opportunity to care for their local environment while learning about the impact rubbish can have on our planet, particularly on the wildlife and marine animals that call our beaches and oceans home.

It is wonderful to see how enthusiastic the children are about helping. They are quick to spot litter and eager to do their bit to make a difference. Through these experiences, they begin to understand that even small actions can have a big impact and that we all have a part to play in protecting our natural world.

We are incredibly proud of their enthusiasm, kindness and growing sense of responsibility. Who knows? Our little beach cleaners may become the environmental champions of the future!

For us, sustainability is about more than reducing waste. It is about making considered choices, valuing the resources we have and helping children understand that their actions can make a positive difference.

By choosing reusable products, reducing single-use plastics, investing in lasting resources and finding creative ways to reuse everyday materials, we hope to nurture environmentally conscious habits from an early age.

We want to give children the best possible start, not only in their learning and development, but also in understanding how to care for the world they are growing up in.

After all, a greener future starts with the little things we do today.
